What's New

Now Recruiting SFLGFB Flag Team Members

Ever want to experience the roar and fabulousness of the SF Pride Parade from the middle of Market Street? Then join the Band’s new Flag Corps! No experience needed. No flags or uniform needed. All you need are comfortable shoes and a burning desire to add some flash to the world’s first openly LGBT music group for its 35th march up Market Street!

Our award-winning twirler, Ed Boeke – the Baron of Batons, the Sultan of Sequins – will teach you some simple-yet-flashy routines so you can help us glam up Pride.

Our next marching rehearsal is this Sunday, May 20. For info on this or future rehearsals, e-mail our Marching Director at marching [at] sflgfb [dot] org.

34th Annual Pride Concert™ – June 22, 2012 – 7 pm and 9 pm

34th Annual Pride Concert kicks off pride weekend with some of the flashiest music written for chorus and wind ensemble! First produced in 1979 by Band founder Jon Sims at Grace Cathedral, the Annual Pride Concert is one of the longest-running annual performances in San Francisco and represents one of the first forms of open artistic expression to come from Harvey Milk’s Castro and the LGBTQ community in San Francisco. Music by Lesbian/Gay Chorus of San Francisco, San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band and other Bay Area LGBTQ music groups promotes LGBTQ visibility. www.annualprideconcert.org

Heidi Beeler

I’ve been Out in Gay Mecca for 20 years. On the last Sunday of every June, I make a beeline from some point west of the Ferry Building down to City Hall, crammed between convertibles and motorcycles, dodging men on roller skates dressed in day-glo G-strings and bristling with balloons, and batting down pamphlets against…
