Friday, March 15, 8 pm – Dr. Martin Seggelke Conducts Lord of the Rings Symphony

Dr. Martin H. Seggelke conducts the Band in a performance of Johan de Meij’s Lord of the Rings Symphony No. 1. Composed in 1988, more than a decade before the release of the Oscar-winning film trilogy, Meij’s classic symphony for concert band captures the spirit of Tolkien’s Middle Earth in five distinct movements: Gandalf, Lothlorien, Gollum, Journey in the Dark and Hobbits.

Dr. Seggelke is a member of the music faculty at the School of Music and Dance at San Francisco State University. He serves as Director of Wind Ensembles, conducting the SFSU Wind Ensemble and Chamber Winds, leading the Master of Music program in Wind Conducting, and teaching undergraduate classes in conducting.
