Dance-Along Nutcracker® — December 2015

Music & Dancing & Lights – Oh My!

Welcome to Dance-Along Nutcracker® 2015 – The Nutcracker of Oz!

Hailed as one of the “Best Bets for Holiday Dance” by the SF Chronicle, the Dance-Along Nutcracker® is one of San Francisco’s most endeared holiday events! Exemplifying the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band’s mission for 30 years, the Dance-Along Nutcracker® has been bringing together the community with a show that takes children, families, couples and singles on a magical holiday journey. This year’s fun-filled, zany dance-along concert will take the audience on a musical trek over the rainbow – so grab your tutu– we’re heading to Oz! Join us for one of San Francisco’s most beloved and unique holiday traditions.

The Nutcracker of Oz

The 2015 Dance-Along Nutcracker® blends Tchaikovsky’s classic fairytale with a unique adaptation of the timeless story of Oz into a musical theater treat guaranteed to delight children and adults. Join Clara, her dog Fritz and the entire Stahlbaum clan on their escapade down the yellow brick road.

Under the baton of Artistic Director Pete Nowlen, the band will play “Ozesque” favorites from the 1939 cinema classics, Wicked and The Wiz. As always, Sugar Plum wannabes are invited to join the actors onstage to dance under the spotlights of the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. If twirling and pirouetting is not your thing, listening and watching is equally gratifying!

Using wit, artistry and ingenuity, the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band has created an unforgettable show that will take you on a journey into the land of imagination as you follow Clara, Fritz and their companions along the winding road to a mystical place where dreams really do come true!
